Lichfield Festival Secures Culture Recovery Fund Grant

We’re delighted and incredibly grateful to say that we’ve been awarded a grant from the second round of the Culture Recovery Fund.

This grant will allow us to continue to bring high-quality multi-arts experiences to our communities and support more freelancers in the arts – starting with the planning and delivery of our 2021 Summer Festival (8th – 18th July).

We’d like to thank Arts Council England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport for supporting us and believing in our ability to reignite Lichfield with arts and culture this summer.

I choose to support the Festival’s work with younger musicians, via the Festival’s Young Artist platform for performers who are just beginning to make their way in the world.  The fact that these names often become well known in the musical world within a few years is only an added recompense for the joy of the quality of their performances, which we often look back on for several years when we encounter them again, this time as a more mature and well-known adult soloists with the CBSO, for example, or at the Proms.

Having been a young musician myself many years ago (not wishing to recall how many), the encouragement of the Young Artist Series is a particular passion of mine. The Festival has proven to be a superb platform for these young people, demonstrated by the worldwide acclaim and success that many have moved on to achieve. When these artists return to perform for us years later having developed their talent even further, it is a heart-warming occasion.  This year, 2021, I have had the usual tortuous struggle to select those whom I have wished to offer the extra support.
